2014 World Water Week Report Recommends Increased Collaboration Among Water, Energy Communities[viewed]

Tighter links and collaboration among the water and energy communities are necessary to meet higher demands for water and energy, achieve sustainable economic development and eradicate extreme poverty, according to a report published by the Stockholm International Water Institute (SIWI) in advance of the 2014 World Water Week. The 2014 World Water Week report, ‘Energy and Water: The Vital Link for a Sustainable Future,' discusses key challenges and opportunities facing the energy and water communities and aims to provide a “take-off point” for increased collaboration among the two communities.

ISO Releases Water Footprint Standard[viewed]

The International Organization for Standardization (ISO) published the ISO 14046 standard, which will allow organizations to measure their water footprint. The standard ‘Environmental management-Water footprint-Principles, requirements and guidelines' will enable governments, the private sector, civil society and others to measure and report on the potential environmental impact of water use and pollution.

EEA Updates Climate Change Indicators[viewed]

The European Environment Agency (EEA) has published 13 climate change indicators, updating information included in its 2012 assessment 'Climate Change, Impacts and Vulnerability in Europe.' According to EEA, the period 2004-2013 was Europe's warmest decade on record, and many global trends, such as sea level rise, warming oceans, and shrinking snow cover, are having significant impacts on the continent.
